Panoboter – 2 servos, more than 1300 lines of code

Davide GombaJuly 5th, 2010

Arduino forum [mhemhe] shared on [OpenRise.com] a very peculiar creation: the Panoboter,

a  lightwight robot for spheric and multirow panorama for a dslr camera. I’m using one arduino mini pro as main controller and for controlling and drive the servo a pololu servo controller.

Congratulation for the work and effort, and sucha good detailed internet page to take not of it!

more info after the break

Main controller

  • Arduino Pro Mini ATmega328
  • HD44870-compatible LCD (Ebay)
  • RotaryEncoder with push function for user-interaction
  • Trimmer for LCD contrast
  • Pushbutton for “back” function

Material cost (rounded, excluding shipping)

  • servos: 2 x 40$: 80$
  • arduino mini pro: 20$
  • pololu servo controller: 20$
  • alu tubes: 20$
  • display: 10$
  • rotary encoder, buttons, optocoupler, … 20$
  • camera shutter cable: 30$
  • shafts, gears, adaptors and srews: 100$

[…] Mhepekka created this excellent looking Panobotor robot, to take panoramic and orbital and photos using a DSLR camera. The kitchen and forest samples look astounding! They used an Arduino, a couple of servos, and some off-the-shelf hardware to build the project. Source code and schematic are included, however it looks like you are on your own for choosing the construction materials. [via tinker.it] […]

    Hi,

On used material there is :
“rotary encoder, buttons, optocoupler, … 20$”

Rotary encoder : Is that a potentiometer or an optical rotary encoder ?

    Great work.
