CIID offers 3 weeks of summer camp for Interaction Designers

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

if you happen to be in Western Europe this summer:

The CIID summer school is a series of back-to-back workshops where participants will become engaged with the topic of interaction design, learning practical skills in the process. We hope to infuse the knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage participants to use their new-found skills in their current practice or studies.
Running between 12-30th July, there are 25 places available on each module and while we would encourage people to participate in the full three weeks, participants have the option to take one, two or all three weeks of the programme. We are interested in receiving applications from a diverse range of backgrounds from all over the world.
3 killing workshops from: Matt Cottam, Dennis Paul, Massimo Banzi.

An excellent Eagle Course

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

I spent this Saturday at a free CadSoft Eagle course for Arduino users which had been organised by Tinker London and Farnell’s Element14.

Over twenty of us crammed into a well-equipped course room at the Cavendish Conference Centre. The main presenter was Tinker’s Peter Knight. Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino (the CEO and co-founder of Tinker) explained that when she first asked Peter to run the course he said he could cover the subject in three weeks. Somehow he managed to cover the essentials in just a few hours!

Make your own Vj controller [Arduino meets Resolume]

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Nice upcoming workshop in Rome at the end of the month:

I’m really glad to announce a new Arduino workshop, VJ-related, in Rome, at the end of the month. [...]

Now, it’s preatty straightforward sending data to PD, Processing or MAX/Msp with Arduino. Over the years, I always asked myself in which way Arduino, my favourite beloved italian board, could have helped the (other) big majority of visualist who use mass vj software, like Resolume 3 or Modul8.

So the idea of this workshop came in my mind. Arduino meets Resolume is the prototyping of a simple yet modular little vj console, inside a VHS case. A normal Arduino workshop with some hacking, some programming, a lot of amusement. A perfect intro to many vjs who want to make a turntable out of a hackek HD, or just learn how to solder/desolder/heal some electronic equipment.

"Making spaces talk" workshop @ MAInD [Supsi] Switzerland

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

[Massimo] is teaching at the end of May at the SUPSI (Scuola Universitaria Professionale Svizzera Italiana) for a master in Physical Computing.

The evolution of sensing and networking technologies allowed a paradigmatic change in the conception of our environment: sensible physical objects, physically interconnected, turn spaces into something smarter and active by interpreting our needs and influencing our behavior. Making spaces talk is a workshop focused on the design of prototypes of interactive environments based on hardware/software systems that perceive, interpret, and react to the real world by providing the user with information or metaphorical, visual, and tangible experiences.

Have a look!

Hackea [lamps & codes]

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

[arkadian.eu] inspired us long ago with his hacking ikea post.

We moved it a little bit further, making a whole workshop about it. Here is the report.

And here the codes!

Arduino Cake in CIID

Friday, December 4th, 2009

During Massimo’s course at CIID, the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design, the students came out with the idea of making a cake resembling the IDE’s icon:

Massimo got extra happy that day, just take a look at this other picture (by the same author)

Arduino Workshop in Mexico DF

Arduino Workshop in Mexico DF

Between November 25th and December 5th I will be running a free workshop in basic electronics for music instrument construction in Mexico DF at Faro de Oriente. Our goal will be to build digital interactive instruments out of Arduino boards and parts taken from the markets (Tianguis in Mexican) around the area. The workshop is free and counts with the collaboration of Centro Cultural de España en Mexico.
